RE: They killed my good cell phone

But I understand first responders get to keep them, Police, Fire, Etc. I sure hated to give it up.Somebody is making a 3 watt digital bag phone for those guys. Can't remember who, will have to ask my son, or maybe somebody involved in emergency service will chime in and let us know.

RE: I think we have found a motorhome...

You haven't brought her home yet!! Younger brother to my 1994 DA28. But it has a few more miles than mine does, but that is good mileage for a '96. And the Allegros wear the mileage well! And Gale is right about the exhaust manifold bolts popping. I just went thru that.

RE: Downsize from Class A

We just upgraded from a class C to a class A (used). We were always getting in each others way and afraid the we might "kill" each other. So we went from a 26' mini class C to a 28' class A with a rear queen. Now we can get lost without bumping into each other! I must admit that a View might be nice with the slide outs!

RE: Cummins vs Caterpillar

I believe that it is a old wives tale. It use to be said that the only place you could find a Caterpillar mechanic was at a construction site because Caterpillar was popular in construction equipment. And he was a union mechanic getting union wages. And that you could find a Cummins or Detroit Diesel mechanic at a truck shop and he was getting paid what ever the market would bear. It was also said, that a Cummins will always get you home. But that was in the days of the 220 and 250 diesels. You can tell that I am partial to Cummins.

RE: Made the tire brand decision, long

Well I have my own issues with goodyear right now. I bought a tire after a blow out in nashville, they instlled it on an inner rear, by the time I got to Indianapolis, the tire was blown apart, and had to buy another tire because they didn't do goodyear, it's not a goodyear, when I got home in December, I took the tire and the receipt with miles on it, and the unit to goodyear service in Akron Oh, and the tire is still not adjusted, just went back today, hows that for fast service, 6 months, checking back every few weeks, a tire with less the 500 miles and still has the paint marks on the tread, no adjustment yet. The manager says it has to be looked at by one of the goodyear reps. Still waiting for that to happen I guess. No more goodyears for me! I'll look at the yokahama's next. Michlen, not on your life, let alone my life! I would be amazed if Goodyear compensated you for this as you (or the tire fitter) made a huge mistake. You cannot install a new tire on a dual without replacing BOTH of them. The rolling radius is different and you are overloading the new tire and IT WILL FAIL - probably in less than 100 miles. Your tire fitter should have alerted you to this and your issue is with them and not Goodyear - it would have happened regardless of which make you had fitted. If the tire was properly mated there should be no problem. The petroleum transport company I worked for did this all the time. And Goodyear adjusted them all the time. You have to measure the circumference of the existing good tire and find a tire the will mate up to that circumference. If the fitter knew what he was doing, he would have made a proper match. And 6 months for a adjustment, somebody is dragging their feet or does not want to tell you bad news.

RE: Emergency road service - getting a new DP tire for a flat

You might be far better off obtaining a "national account" thru your local tire dealer if you get good prices thru him. That way you pay the price you would pay your Goodyear or Michelin dealer at home for both tire and service call. I would consider this in addition to the ERS, using the ERS for everything else. Your ERS might even pick up the service call charge. You have to remember that the ERS is nothing but a "go between" and does not have access to the various tire warehouse inventories. They pick up the phone and call around to people they have contracts with.

RE: Surge Protector

To follow up more on Harveyj's comment, you can purchase a lock for the portable units. But then, locks are for honest people.

RE: Totally Lost and Confused

Thanks for the Hat trick! I was really thinking about buying a Align-A-Site. The tin hat might just work for me, cause I usually can get it close, but not good at horseshoes. 73s Pat

RE: TV $40 Converter coupon - which to buy?

I think there all pretty much the same. No, No, No - They are not created equal! Find some reviews before you spend anything. I read some very crazy stuff on what the pictures end up looking like on your TV.

RE: Made a major oops...

Just don't break down in Columbus, Ohio on a weekend! I did and ended up making a temporary repair to get out of town to find someone to work on the motorhome. Spent the night in a "Park and Ride parking lot" under a sign that said "No Overnight Parking". Thought my butt was covered too. :(

RE: stale gas, interesting article if interested

I'm a old fart who has never had a problem with stale gas, you know, the kind in a engine! And I was in a out of gas refineries for years. Can tell you other stuff it does to you though! But you don't want to know about that stuff!

RE: Propane Tanks

Not on a chassis mounted horizonal tank, unless somebody replaced it with a portable removable tank.

RE: Interstate batteries any good?

They are nothing special. I've seen a lot of bad brand new ones put in tractor trailers over the years, just to have them pulled out a couple days later, cause they did not have starting power.

RE: Locking Gas Caps..Yes or No?

Let's see - anybody want to go into business? I'm thinking a motion sensor activated rattle that sounds like a rattle snake, behind the panel just below the tank fill. I can't think of anything else that would make a gas thief back off so quickly.

RE: Complete list of RV parks?

There is no such thing as a 'complete' campground directory--unfortunately. Most of the ones already mentioned do not begin to cover it.

RE: I have Michelin XZE not XZA tires. What is the differance?

XZA "The all-position radial with proven versatility. Massive shoulders and application specific compound help resist scrub and abrasion, extending tread life. Zigzag groove design for true all-position use. Application specific compounding helps improve resistance to scrub and abrasion." and XZE: "A premium all-position radial with extra-wide, extra-deep tread designed to help deliver our best wear in high scrub applications. Beefy, buttressed shoulders help resist tearing and accelerated wear in high scrub applications. Extra strong curb guards help protect sidewalls against most impacts and abrasions for long casing life. Groove bottom protectors help deliver additional defense against stone drilling. Application specific, high scrub compound (chip and cut resistant in versions with * designation) make the XZE our longest wearing regional steer tire. Deep, wide tread and optimized footprint shape help deliver long, even tread wear." Different thread designs as you can see on the Michelin web site and the XZE is a "premium" tire and may have a different rubber compound.
